A trust signed years ago may no longer match the title of your North Shore home or the people in your life. Review the complete documents and confirm the funding.

Families sometimes keep an old binder without knowing which amendments are current or whether the house ever entered the trust. A useful review compares instructions, ownership, and present wishes. The Andrews Law Firm can help assess the California trust and identify gaps before a successor needs to rely on it.
California legal guidance tailored to your needs
Identify all operative amendments and restatements.
Compare current title with intended funding.
Review availability, backups, and responsibilities.
Bring the original trust, every amendment, and any restatement rather than selecting the pages that look most recent. Conflicting dates or missing attachments can change the review. Identify the people named as trustees and beneficiaries and note deaths, marriages, divorces, or other changes. An older trust is not necessarily ineffective, but its age alone does not establish that it remains appropriate. Explain which instructions you still want and which no longer reflect your circumstances before anyone prepares another amendment.
Locate the latest recorded deed and the documents from any refinancing or ownership change. The house may have been bought after the trust was signed, or title may have changed later. A funding schedule does not by itself settle the recorded ownership question. For the Placer County home, review whether an appropriate deed to the trustee was completed and recorded. Keep the evidence with the operative trust so a future successor can see what was done rather than infer it from the binder’s label.
A person named decades ago may no longer be available or suited to serve. Discuss backups, how authority begins, and what the successor may need to manage the property and accounts. Instructions should also account for the current beneficiaries and the intended use or sale of the home. Coordinate financial powers of attorney and health care documents separately; the trust does not automatically answer every incapacity question. The review should identify both the people who can act and the assets each role can reach.
An amendment or restatement is only one possible part of the work. Ownership transfers, account arrangements, beneficiary records, and document access may require attention too. Ask for a clear distinction between drafting completed and funding completed. Avoid handwritten changes or signing a new deed without understanding how it fits the reviewed plan. A pour-over will can address omitted assets but may still involve probate. Recheck the records after the next property or family change so the same gap is not simply carried into another binder.
When the current deed differs from the trust binder, gather the refinancing and transfer record before deciding which document is wrong. Determine what was signed, recorded, or left pending. A corrective step should be based on current ownership and an appropriate legal review, not on an old email saying the house would return to the trust. Keep final recorded copies and identify any related institution follow-up. The review can then distinguish a drafting change from an ownership change. That distinction is especially useful for an older trust whose documents have accumulated over time without a clear record showing which funding work was actually completed.
